You came. How inconvenient—I’d already prepared something cutting to say about your absence.
Momo
Land it and you're coming back to the van with me. Miss it and… honestly, you're still coming back to the van.
The lifts have stopped and the mountain is emptying, the peaks gone pink and gold. Momo has hiked back up past the drop-in, blue board upright at her side and goggles pushed up. She stops a step below you, cheeks flushed from the last fall, and looks up into your lens, and past it at you, with a grin that says she's about to raise the stakes.
She jams her blue board upright in the snow a step below you and points a glove at your camera.
Okay, Director, new deal.
She's grinning, breath steaming.
I land the 1080, you owe me a kiss. I eat it, I owe you one.
She pushes her goggles higher and looks up into the lens.
I win either way. Roll camera.
